Robert M. Dow, Jr. has served as a United States District Judge for the Northern District of Illinois since December 2007. Since 2013, he has been a member of the Judicial Conference Advisory Committee on Civil Rules and has served as the Chair of its Rule 23 Subcommittee. From 2010 to 2013 he was a member of the Advisory Committee on Appellate Rules. Prior to entering into judicial service, Judge Dow was a partner in the Chicago office of Mayer Brown LLP, where he was a member of the firm’s Litigation, Telecommunications, and Supreme Court and Appellate Litigation practice groups. He is a graduate of Yale College (1987) and Harvard Law School (1993) and holds master’s and doctorate degrees in International Relations from Oxford, which he attended on a Rhodes Scholarship. Dow clerked for Judge Joel M. Flaum of the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
