Hon. Elizabeth A. Stafford

U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Michigan

Magistrate Judge Elizabeth A. Stafford joined the bench of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan on November 17, 2014. A native of Detroit, Judge Stafford received her undergraduate degree from Michigan State University and her Juris Doctor from Wayne State University Law School. She began her career at the firm of Goodman, Eden, Millender & Bedrosian, practicing in various areas of personal injury law, including automobile negligence, products liability, civil rights, governmental immunity, wrongful discharge, and general negligence. In 1998, she became a law clerk for United States District Judge Victoria A. Roberts. Judge Stafford joined the office of the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan in 2002, serving as a federal prosecutor in the general crimes, the controlled substance and the public corruption units until her appointment to the bench. Since becoming a magistrate judge, she has served as a panelist at the Georgetown Advanced eDiscovery Institute (2016, 2018-2020); as a panelist for the Sedona Conference Institute (March 2017; November 2017); as a member of the Sedona Conference’s Judicial Advisory Board (2018 to present); and as the keynote speaker for the Detroit Chapter of the Association of Certified E-Discovery Specialist conferences (2017, 2020).
